Congratulations to Jimmy O’Brien, EAA 618685, who passed his IA (inspection authorization) exam in June with a near perfect score.
His journey as an A&P began in 2010 when he was 25 years old when his father, Jim, asked if he’d like to become partners in the restoration of a 1956 7EC Aeronca Champ.
“Not really having a solid direction in his life, I was hoping that the airplane and the people would have an influence on Jimmy to help him find his way in life,” said Jim, EAA Lifetime 618682.
Three months into the build Jimmy decided to pursue his A&P, finishing his program in two years and later earning his private pilot certificate in his family’s restored Champ.
Jim said Jimmy passing his IA exam this month is the culmination of continued hard work over the years since he’s joined the aviation world.
“He’s worked hard and is always learning, and his efforts have paid off,” Jim said of his son. “The moral of the story is that aviation makes men, not always the other way around. Airplanes gave this young man an opportunity that is available to more folks than they realize. But all this said, nothing makes a dad more proud than to see his son succeed and achieve his goals.”
Congratulations again, Jimmy, on this successful next step in your aviation career!
