To many people, the Supermarine Spitfire epitomizes the gallantry and sacrifice of the British Royal Air Force during World War II. While any warbird brings some history along with it, this particular fighter, a 1942 Spitfire Mk.IX, brought more than its share when it came to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2017. The airplane, owned and operated by the Collings Foundation, is a well-documented veteran of more than 100 combat missions in WWII.
