A larger than expected crowd attended the first Young Aviators Fly-In at Triple Tree Aerodrome in South Carolina from June 8-10. It’s estimated that more than 500 attendees flew and drove into the event, 200-plus airplanes landed on the pristine 7,000-foot-long grass strip, 56 airplanes camped on the grounds, and 60 EAA Young Eagles flights were given thanks to EAA Chapters 242, 249, 468, and 690. Numerous EAA staff attended in support of the fly-in, which was sponsored by EAA, AOPA, and the Academy of Model Aeronautics. Organized by 19-year-old Cayla McLeod, EAA 1174055, and 23-year-old Ryan Hunt, EAA 1272808, the youth-oriented fly-in included RC demonstrations, seminars, views of hundreds of airplanes, a raffle, friendship, high-end camping facilities, and swimming in the adjacent river and ponds at the facility. Here are a few of the photos EAA captured from the event. Look for a full story and video in the August edition of EAA Sport Aviation.
