Capt. Eddie Kurdziel’s Fairey Firefly will be on display on Warbird Alley during AirVenture and was part of EAA’s highly anticipated Warbirds in Review program Monday afternoon. The Firefly’s first combat mission was the raid on the German battleship Tirpitz in 1944. It was also the first British airplane to fly over Japan and Tokyo in World War II. Kurdziel’s Firefly is the only aircraft to win Grand Champion at Oshkosh, the Neil A. Armstrong Aviation Heritage Trophy, and the National Aviation Hall of Fame People’s Choice award at Reno.
