On Saturday, February 1, EAA Chapter 431 at the Brodhead Airport in Brodhead, Wisconsin, held its annual event after several years of bad weather and poor turnout. Although the snow was wet and soft, several skiplanes flew in or came out from the local hangars. Being an all-grass runway airport, the runways are not plowed in the winter, making this the perfect venue for such an event.
The chapter hangar was constantly full of folks coming in from all over the area to dine on the several kinds of chili available. Over in the nearby, recently finished Kelch Aviation Museum hangar, young and old alike were flying rubber-band-powered balsa airplanes, electric radio-controlled airplanes, and small drones. Outdoors, folks conversed around the warming fire pit and aircraft while one young lady built a snowman. All were quite glad when the sun arrived in early afternoon after hiding for two weeks.
Brodhead’s very active local EAA chapter is proud to host such events, helping the airport live up to its reputation as the “best grassroots airport in the world.”
