Congratulations to EAA Vintage Chapter 25 Ray Aviation Scholarship recipient Tyler Pierson on his first, second, third, and fourth solo! Tyler, EAA 1314609, soloed in a Cessna 150 four times, at four different airports, in the span of a single week!
Tyler first soloed at Franklin Field in Franklin, California, on April 24, followed the next day by soloing again, this time at University Airport in Davis, California. Then, on April 28, Tyler soloed at Rio Linda Airport in Rio Linda, California, followed by his fourth solo two days later at Sacramento Executive Airport in Sacramento, California.
After his busy week of solos, Tyler is now working on his training, including studying for the written exam as well as working on cross-country flight planning, crosswind takeoffs and landings, and short field and soft field takeoffs and landings.
Vintage Chapter 25 worked tirelessly over the past year to earn a slot in the Ray Aviation Scholarship program. The leaders of Vintage Chapter 25 attended the Fall Chapter Leadership Academy in Oshkosh, and added a Technical Counselor and a VMC Club to increase the chapter’s offerings and boost their chance to receive a $10,000 scholarship grant.
After being awarded a program slot in early 2020, selecting Tyler was an easy decision for the chapter. Throughout his time with EAA Vintage Chapter 25, Tyler consistently attended all chapter events and work days, whether there was a flight taking place or the day entailed working on planes on the ground.
One of Tyler’s favorite activities to attend has been a weekly program put on by Vintage Chapter 25 each Saturday that has allowed him to help build and maintain aircraft. In addition, Tyler was also selected to win the chapter’s scholarship to attend the EAA Air Academy.
