This piece originally ran in the August 2020 issue of EAA Sport Aviation magazine.
This customized, hand-painted leather flight jacket, a G-1 as worn by U.S. Navy pilots almost continually from World War II to the present day, was owned by Moulton B. “Molt” Taylor. Molt flew for the Navy in WWII, but he’s best known as the inventor of the Aerocar. Six examples were built, including the prototype displayed in the EAA Aviation Museum, but the automobile/airplane hybrid never went into production.
