The Fargo Air Museum strives to provide advanced education to youth that is both exciting and interactive to help spark a passion for aviation in the next generation. The Intro to Aviation camps were designed to bring in industry experts to give campers a front row look into the many sides of aviation.
On April 3, members of EAA Chapter 317 in Fargo, North Dakota, were brought in to teach campers about the basic principles of flight as they waited for their turn to take to the sky. The chapter was able to provide six pilots and aircraft to give flights to 30 kids over the course of the morning. Upon arrival, kids were given a boarding pass with their flight information and upon the completion of their flight they were issued a logbook and certificate to commemorate the day.
“As the CEO/Executive Director of the Fargo Air Museum and the Secretary for EAA Chapter 317, I was able to participate in both the planning and execution of the event as well as volunteer as one of the Young Eagles pilots,” said Ryan Thayer, EAA 1391374. “I am absolutely honored to be part of this event, seeing the grins from the kids and parents as well as seeing the look on their faces when they received their logbooks and certificates was absolutely priceless!”
This is planned to be the first of many partnerships between Chapter 317 and the Fargo Air Museum as they explore possibilities of another Young Eagles event, an Eagle Flight event, and an experimental fly-in at the museum later this year.
