EAA’s Attic — Steve Wittman’s Tailwinds Notebook

This piece originally ran in the August 2021 issue of EAA Sport Aviation magazine.

Legendary pilot and air racer Steve Wittman, longtime manager of what is now known as Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, was also a prolific aircraft designer. This small notebook, which measures about 5 by 7 inches, includes the names and addresses of all of the people who had built one of his most popular designs, the fast, two-place Wittman Tailwind. The EAA Aviation Museum is proud to feature artifacts from Steve’s life and career in multiple displays.
