EAA’s Attic — Voyager Flight Food Packets

This piece originally ran in the April 2022 issue of EAA Sport Aviation magazine.

In 1986, Dick Rutan, EAA Lifetime 94971, and Jeana Yeager, EAA Lifetime 167759, made history by completing the first flight around the world without stopping or refueling, accomplishing that feat in the Rutan Model 76 Voyager. Throughout the course of their nine-day flight, the two pilots were provided a number of nutritional food items produced by the Shaklee Corp., based in San Francisco. Pictured here are Shaklee-produced energy bars and different flavored soups and shake packets. The Voyager flight wasn’t the only adventure that Shaklee helped to sponsor during the 1980s, as it provided food for mountaineering and polar expeditions, and was the “official nutrition consultant to the U.S. Olympic Ski Team” at the 1984 Winter Olympics.
