EAA Chapter 972 held a Young Eagles Workshop on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the Rusk County Airport (KRFI) in Rusk County, Texas. Thirteen youths attended and learned about aircraft instruments, electrical systems, fabric covering, riveting, aeronautical charts, aircraft control surfaces, and traffic patterns. EAA Chapter 972 Young Eagles Coordinator Gayla Leary, EAA 1132425, said, “I don’t know who had more fun, the students or the adults. When you’re able to share aviation with a child that might not have the opportunity to do so is most rewarding!”
Rusk County Airport Manager Alexia McAnally and hangar owner Tyler Richards were instrumental in the success of the event, as well as the chapter volunteers that assisted in the presentations.
EAA Chapter 972 is in East Texas, based at the Aero Estates Airpark (T25) in Frankston, Texas, with members from the surrounding area.
