In 1979, more than 40 years after she made her historic solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean, Hallmark released an Amelia Earhart doll as the first doll in its “Famous Americans” series. The doll comes in a collectible box designed to look like a 1930s airport hangar. Inside the box is a brief bio of Earhart, and the doll displays Amelia wearing her trademark goggles and silk scarf. Although this doll was created long after Earhart’s disappearance, dolls created in her likeness were not uncommon during her lifetime. Bisque, paper, and celluloid aviator dolls were popular with children in America, Europe, and Japan.
