EAA’s Attic — Leo Gray’s Tuskegee Airmen Uniform

This uniform was worn by Tuskegee airman Leo Gray. Originally from Boston, Gray volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corps and began his aviation training at the Tuskegee Army Airfield in 1942. In 1945, he was stationed in Italy flying P-51 Mustangs with the 100th Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group. He completed 15 combat missions escorting B-24s and B-17s of the 15th Air Force, as well as photo reconnaissance missions over Germany, Austria, and northern Italy.
