Dick Scobee Field in Auburn, Washington, just south of Seattle, has been painting large murals on the end of the hangar rows, celebrating local aviators and groups.

Artist Myron Curry’s mural depicts the original Bowers Fly Baby in flight, flown by historian, author, and Fly Baby designer Peter M. Bowers. Not only was Pete a founding member of Chapter 26, but he also allowed the chapter to operate the prototype Fly Baby as a club airplane. During this period, it was based at Auburn.

The Auburn airport also has included a set of benches to go with each mural. The local EAA chapter was given the opportunity to sponsor a bench for the Bowers painting. Chapter 26 and Chapter 441 (the closest chapter to the airport) joined forces and funded the purchase of a bench engraved with the chapter names as well as that of EAA.

The benches sit on the runway side of the hangar row, granting a great view of aircraft operations. Photo by Tamera Nason.
