Chapter 485 Ray Scholar Continues to Excel

By Ralph Moser, EAA 702188, EAA Chapter 485 President

EAA Chapter 485, the “Panhandle Pelicans” of Pensacola, Florida, would like to highlight the progress of Brian Harris, one of the chapter’s 11 Ray Aviation Scholarship winners. In late 2019, Brian was awarded the chapter’s second Ray Scholarship. He excelled in training and became a private pilot within four months. His aviation progress since then has been dramatic.

Brian completed airframe and powerplant education at George Stone Technical College. Then he acquired a full-time position at Pensacola International Airport, performing overnight maintenance on airliners for Pacific Southwest Airlines. Concurrently, he also attained his instrument rating and commercial pilot certificate. This spring he completed his certified flight instructor training and checkride. He recently started working as a full-time CFI at Pensacola Air Flight School. He has completed most of his CFII training and intends to take that checkride in fall 2025.

Brian continues to be very active in chapter activities. And he is getting married this fall! Brian is living proof that the Ray Aviation Scholarship works!
