By John H. Weber, EAA Chapter 534 Vice President

March 10 was an interesting day for me. This day I experienced the pleasure of having a young man, Luke Nunez, give me a flight review. Luke, EAA 1505649, started in our EAA Chapter 534 youth program as a Young Eagle in 2022. Luke soon became an active participant in the chapter.

Due to his participation in the chapter and his drive to become a pilot, Luke became our chapter’s Ray Aviation Scholarship recipient for 2023. Luke progressed rapidly in his training, soloed in July 2023, and received his private pilot certificate on January 30, 2024.

After his checkride, Luke continued his journey and worked diligently for his instrument rating and commercial certificate. He also received his tailwheel endorsement while getting his spin endorsement for his CFI. Luke received his CFI certificate this year.

I have had the pleasure of seeing this fine young man start flying with us as a Young Eagle, work in our youth program, become a Ray scholar, become a CFI, and now work with me on my flight review. This is a true example of what Young Eagles and the Ray Aviation Scholarship can do in a young person’s life. Needless to say, I am very proud of Luke and the portion of what I have helped him to accomplish.

John and Luke.
