A group of nine young people, accompanied by parents, gathered at the EAA Chapter 534 hangar at the Leesburg International Airport, in Leesburg, Florida, on Saturday, October 20 for Young Eagles flights. It was a perfect day for flying with the temperature in the 80s and just a few puffy clouds in the otherwise blue sky.

From left, pilot Jim Waymire, EAA 473156, with Young Eagles Stephanie Stoff, EAA 1268970; Micaela Mazenko, EAA 1268729; and Stefane Tasse who are anxious to get up in the air.

Joel Hargis, EAA 1074421, the Chapter 534 Young Eagles coordinator, gave a short talk to the young folks and parents about the program and what to expect during the flight.

Pilot Jim Waymire explains the aerodynamics of his airplane’s elevators and rudder to his Young Eagles. As of publication, Jim has flown 299 Young Eagles.

Chapter 534 provided four volunteer pilots, four fixed wing aircraft, and eight additional member volunteers to handle the paperwork and escort duty.

Young Eagle Samantha Miraglia, left, and her sister Carmella proudly display their commemorative Young Eagles certificates with their pilot Joel Hargis.
