Chapter 1 Celebrates 65 Years

On January 26, EAA visited Chapter 1 at Flabob Airport in Riverside, California, home of the first EAA chapter. Flabob is where it all began for EAA chapters. In 1953, Ray Stits wrote a letter to Paul Poberezny requesting he bring EAA to airports throughout the country versus people traveling to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for meetings. Later that year, Ray’s request was granted, and the first chapter was born in January 1954. Sixty-five years later EAA has more than 900 chapters across the country helping to promote The Spirit of Aviation through participation in a grassroots effort. Chapter 1 celebrated by hosting a banquet for more than 125 people, which included cake and a plaque dedication from EAA headquarters. They also awarded one of the first two Ray Aviation Scholarship Fund scholarships to Max Davidson, EAA 1300947, during the ceremony.
