EAA’s Attic — Helmco-Lacy Hot Cup

This small electrical appliance is placarded as a “Cup; Food Warmer, Type A-1.” Transport and bomber crews would use devices like this for coffee, hot chocolate, soup — anything that might provide a little warming comfort on a long and cold mission in the frigid temperatures of high altitude. This particular unit, built by the Helmco-Lacy company of Chicago, was donated to the EAA Aviation Museum by Norm Poberezny, EAA 2680, Paul’s brother, who retired as an instructor flight engineer on Boeing KC-97s in 1976.
