EAA’s Attic — South American Pictorial Travel and Trading Game

This piece originally ran in the May 2020 issue of EAA Sport Aviation magazine.

This board game was released in 1942 by Parker Brothers, the company best known for the iconic Monopoly game. The object of the game is to explore South American destinations and buy and sell assorted commodities. The game features a Boeing 307 Stratoliner on the box and the spinner. There’s also an insert that offers a detailed cutaway view of a Boeing 314 Clipper. The game was designed with metal pieces and was slated to be canceled due to wartime shortages. However, the company, believing games like this to be a welcome diversion, elected to substitute wood and cardboard pieces and publish it anyway.
