My 2022 Young Eagles Camp Experience

My 2022 Young Eagles Camp Experience

By Olivia Eick, EAA 1382218

My time at the Young Eagles Flight Camp was amazing. While I was on my way to the camp, I was extremely nervous. I didn’t know anyone prior and didn’t know what to expect either. Soon after I arrived, I realized I had nothing to be nervous about. Everyone was so nice and welcoming and immediately answered any questions I had.

I shared a room with three other girls, they were so sweet, and we all had an amazing time together. Shortly after we all settled in, we were put into groups and assigned activities. My group’s project was to make air-compressed bottle rockets using only plastic soda bottles, tape, string, a plastic cup, and cardboard. We had about two hours to design the bottle rocket we thought would fly the highest, fastest, and straightest. For the next two days we were assigned to make mini-wing ribs, and a mini wooden airplane. We also got to do an airplane simulator with hundreds of different types of airplanes to fly.

My favorite activity had to have been the museum. We went to the museum quite a few times and it was never boring. It’s so amazing to see the hundreds of airplanes from old to new. I made so many new friends and so many memories that I hope to never forget. I’m beyond thankful for all the opportunities EAA has given me, and I hope to keep gaining more experience with flying and airplanes, and I look forward to more opportunities to come. Once again, I just want to say thank you to EAA Chapter 931, and especially thank you to Mat and Lauren.
