To Oshkosh From Winnipeg on a Bicycle!

I attended AirVenture 2023 and camped just down the lane from the Canadian camping group. This was my second time at Oshkosh. My first visit was in 2005. I attended the event along with my brother Clive from Cranbrook, British Columbia, and friends John and Katie from Fort Worth, Texas. What made our visit somewhat unique was that we rode our bicycles a good portion of the way, starting near Winnipeg, Manitoba, in St. Agathe. Clive was our support driver and hauled a camping trailer and all our gear. John, Katie, and I rode our bikes. Our planned route through North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin, was a total of 1,100 km. Due to thunderstorms, road conditions, or construction the actual mileage was a little more than 700 km rode. We had a great time at Oshkosh and will certainly come back again.

We try to do a multi-week bike trip every summer. I have been touring for almost 30 years, John and Katie even longer. Last year’s trip was from Cranbrook to Brandon, Manitoba, and was Clive’s first time providing support. He enjoyed it so much he signed on for this year’s ride before we had even decided that Oshkosh would be our 2023 destination.

Here are just a few photographic souvenirs of a trip we’ll never forget.
