Javron Aviation in Brainerd, Minnesota, offers experimental Super Cub kits using original Piper PA-18 specs and dimensions. At EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026, the company had a four-place Super Cub kit on display. Javron’s Jay DeRosier said, “We basically took the architecture from a stock Super Cub, meaning the wing location, strut location, engine, door opening, locations, all that, and transferred it to this airframe. Doug Keller designed the airframe for us.
“It’s a clean sheet of paper design,” he added. “The upper longerons come from the rear wing fitting and go down to the tail. So there’s no light Piper channel structure up above to give the fuselage shape. The fuselage is all wide open inside; it is a great big box. The front seats are on Cessna-type seat tracks. So they move back and forth. They can be taken out really easily.
“The airframe will actually go to 2,500 pounds, but my wing was tested to 2,200 pounds with a margin, so we go to 2,300 on floats or on the four-place.”
Jay added, “My Super Cub kits are made right off Piper drawings, so all my parts interchange with the stock Super Cub. So they are a pure copy of a Super Cub. Some of the other ones take liberty in their design and change things, but the four-place is a Super Cub. All the wing incidence angle, tail incidence angle, all those critical things are the same as a Super Cub. It’s just wider — it’s 44 inches wide inside, and it’s 19 inches longer than a stock Cub, which helps increase the envelope of the CG.”
The aircraft has a 2,300-pound gross weight and is around 1,200 pounds empty, leaving a 1,100-pound useful load. It is available as an experimental amateur-built kit, and there is a builder-assist program available at the company’s location in Brainerd.
