50 Years an Oshkosh Attendee

50 Years an Oshkosh Attendee

By Kaitlin Piette

Wayne Schmidt, EAA 437248, from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, has been attending EAA conventions for 50 years, and has been an EAA member since 1993. In the past, Wayne used to camp at Camp Scholler and work at the Hangar Café as a chicken fryer. He also was a tram conductor, in charge of telling the driver when to stop and when to go, while delivering people attending AirVenture safely to their destination. Even though some health problems have developed, Wayne faces the obstacles in order to keep attending the one place he enjoys coming to. In Wayne’s words, “All the airplanes, especially the warbirds!” are what makes coming to Oshkosh so special.
